The Midtown School of Dance believes
a teacher's responsibility is to create a positive atmosphere, while motivating students to set and attain goals. Dancers
will be taught to perform the basic skills accurately and with proper technique, enabling them to progress rapidly through
the systematic curriculum.
Kim Shope danced with the Kansas City Ballet for fourteen years performing many soloist roles in the works of Todd Bolender,
George Balanchine and Alvin Ailey. She studied the art of teaching with instructors from the School of American Ballet in
New York City and Todd Bolender and Una Kai in Kansas City. Her teachers studied with George Balanchine and shared their knowledge
of the Balanchine Technique with Kim throughout her career.
Our classes are limited to only fourteen students to ensure every instructor knows and understands each student's strengths,
and encourages them to choose and attain appropriate goals.
Testimonial from Christy,Mother of Sage, Level IV
Midtown School of Dance gives Sage so much more than dance lessons. It teaches her discipline; fitness; teamwork and leadership
(from working together with other students of all ages); rhythym and appreciation for music; stage presence (which I think
will translate well into public speaking); balance, poise, and dignity. I don't have the time or money for her to participate
in a bunch of different activities, but if she wasn't with you I'd have to put her in swimming, a team sport, music , debate,
and gymnastics. And even then, how would she learn to put all those skills together with the grace of a ballerina? Thank you
for what you're doing. It matters not just to the students, but to the parents who are trying to give their kids the world.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
Three times per year all students in Levels I thru VI are
invited to perform in exciting ballets created just for them. Themes inspired by the Circus, Tango Music, our Solar System, Edgar Degas, and Kansas City Jazz have been performed. These ballets integrate all levels of students into one dance
creating lasting bonds between all ages of dancers. Leadership skills are gained when the older students are encouraged to assist with the preparation for each new ballet. Pre-Ballet
students perform two times per year.
